June
17, 2013 today is the third class for study curriculum and learning management
in English. I learned about teaching methods. My friends present 6 groups about
teaching methods, Content Based Instruction, listening teaching, speaking
teaching, reading teaching, writing teaching and vocabulary teaching.
First, Content - Based Instruction or
CBI English learning is most effective if the teacher teaches the students to
use the English language in situations that are consistent with the actual
situation to help the students to practice thinking skills and review the
learning content. Teaching should be based on the experience of the learner and
the learner's experience to stimulate learning from easy to difficult.
Second, listening teaching, listening
skill is communication in daily life that focuses about language more than
meaning. Instructions in listening are 3 steps; before listening, while
listening and after listening.
Third, speaking teaching, speaking
skills is focus on Accuracy, Vocabulary, Grammar, Patterns. So, activities with
the learners to practice speaking skills. They focus on the activities that the
students need to practice, or by the sentence structure speaking majority.
Speaking skills training activities has 3 forms 1.Mechanical Drills
(Transformation Drill, Yes/No Question-Answer Drill) 2.Meaningful Drills (Make
a Sentences of a given image, Speaking about the situation in the classroom.) 3.
Communicative Drills (Situation, Imaginary Situation, Describe and Draw)
Fourth, reading teaching, purpose of
learning to read in language has been to have access to the literature written
in that language. This approach assumes that students learn to read a language
by studying its vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure, not by actually
reading it. Instructors can help their students become effective readers by
teaching them how to use strategies before, during, and after reading.
Fifth,
Writing teaching, writing skills need to start by creating a system of writing
from Controlled Writing to Less Controlled Writing and to Free Writing.
Teachers should have the knowledge and techniques teaching Writing skills.
Writing skill focus on Fluency, Accuracy, Vocabulary, Grammar, and Pattern
Content. Writing technique has three methods 1. Controlled Writing (Copying,
Re-ordering Words, Changing forms of certain words) 2. Less – Controlled
Writing (Sentence Combining, Describing, Questions and Answers Composition,
Parallel Writing, Dictation) 3. Free Writing (Free write, Idea, Imagination)
Last, Teaching vocabulary, teach guessing
vocabulary in context. A group of
researchers said learning to learn vocabulary from the vocabulary guess from
the story. But it has a group of researchers who think differently is. The
vocabularies guess it does not make learning real. Teachers have a very
important role in order to use the technique in teaching vocabulary to help the
students learn vocabulary such as using games or music to teach vocabulary,
it's making the students interested and memorize.
In conclusion, today I have to learned 6 teaching method. We can apply in writing lesson
plans. Next week group remaining must present content of method
the best.
